What is an Optional holiday?
Optional Holiday is explained as a holiday declared by the Indian Government in order to accommodate the religious benefits of the employees so that the employee may take leave on that particular day. Optional holidays are not applied to government offices or companies but only to employees with respect to their religious festivals.
Optional holiday states that the holiday is optional and it depends on the employee whether they want to take leave on that particular day or not. On an optional holiday, it is not mandatory to close the entire office on that day. In general, a company’s list of optional holidays may contain many days but the employee is only allowed to select a maximum of 2 days from the list and these holidays are only for employees but not for companies or government offices. For example, Sri Ram Navami is only celebrated among Hindus, like EID is celebrated among Muslims, so it’s up to the employees of particular religious faith to take leave on Optional holiday.
